I got my undergraduate degree from WSU in 1987 in communication and business and have been a stay-at-home mom most of the time since then. I substitute taught in almost all grades in the Yellow Springs School District and did home bound tutoring for about seven years, and I found that my favorite position was working with the students who had special needs. For the last two years I've been an aide in middle school special ed, and just got my license to teach as an intervention specialist. I'm now working on my reading endorsement and master's and will graduate in November.
I don't have a job for this fall yet, but have decided to focus on middle school for my blogs since that's what I know and really enjoy. I'd also like to explore the teaching of writing for students who have learning disabilities and read at a lower level. The author Virginia Hamilton was my neighbor (before she passed) and I'm friends with much of her family, so I've decided to learn through some of her work. I don't plan to use only her writings, but at least one or two of them. I'm looking forward to it!
